Himalayan Honey Pot Lamps

When you see your Himalayan Honey Pot Lamp for the first time, you won't be able to resist caressing it.

There's something so alluring and tactile about the antique patina, the subtle irregularities in the surface and the almost leather-like softness of the wood - they're just irresistible!

Each lamp started out as an individually turned and then hollowed out pot, used by villagers in Kashmir and the Himalayas to store honey, spices, and dried foods.

Some of the pots are over a hundred years old and others only thirty or so - increasingly, stainless steel storage jars are replacing the traditional wooden pots in the region's villages.

The pots were made from a range of local woods including sheesham and teak but when asked, most locals simply call the wood "junglewood"!

Once imported into the UK, the storage pots are carefully converted into table lamps which comply fully with all European and UK wiring regulations.

The parchment shades, which are matched in sized to the lamps, are made here in the UK and can take light bulbs up to 100W.

Shapes and Sizes

Our Himalayan Honey Pot Lamps were hand made with no regard given to standardised sizings or shapes!

We have "taken a view" when it comes to the size and shape of the lamps and they can be generally divided into "roundish" squat lamps and straightish "slim" lamps in four sizes: small, medium, large and jumbo.

If you order a pair of table lamps, we'll do our best to match the two lamps but it's obviously impossible to get an identical pair.

The approximate sizes are:

Jumbo Lamp Base: Dia. 300mm Height 350mm Lamp Shade: Dia. 510mm Height 300mm

Large Lamp Base: Dia. 220mm Height 290mm Lamp Shade: Dia. 460mm Height 260mm

Medium Lamp Base: Dia. 200mm Height 270mm Lamp Shade: Dia. 410mm Height 240mm

Small lamp Base: Dia. 180mm Height 200mm Lamp Shade: Dia. 360mm Height 220mm

Lamp Shades

All of our lamps are supplied with appropriately sized, parchment lamp shades, finished with gold tape.

Each lamp shade seam is stitched to prevent splitting and all of the shades are safe for bulbs up to 100W - they should last for many years.

You can of course source alternative shades from elsewhere, but these are the ones we do and we think they match the lamps beautifully!
